Caring Community

When the church gathers, we pray for the needs of those connected to our congregation and the world. Each week we update our prayer list and participate in Pray Without Ceasing. Contact the office (952-935-3457 or office@sothchurch.com) to add your prayer requests.

There are many opportunities and ways to give your time and talents to care for and support the Shepherd family. Contact the office to learn more about a specific opportunity and/or be connected with the leader of a particular one listed below.

Admin/Facilities Team -This team invites those who enjoy working inside or outside of the building to serve with us. Whether you like to garden, shovel snow, paint, do light maintenance, or help out in the office, we have a place for you!

Connection Events -On fifth Sundays of the month, CARE Team hosts events after worship like Friendsgiving and a Chili Cook Off fundraiser for Mental Health Connect.

Creating Together - NEW THIS FALL, adults and youth (ages 8+) are invited to Creating Together, a relaxed open studio for arts and crafts. Bring your own project—or simply come to color, create, and connect with others. Basic supplies will be available, and there is no cost to participate. Sessions are Fridays from 6:00–8:00 p.m. on October 9, January 8, and April 9. Watch for a sign-up sheet at the Welcome Desk.

Funeral Care Team - This team sets up, serves, and cleans up when there is a funeral at Shepherd. Generally, Shepherd provides bars, coffee, water, and lemonade and the family provides the food which is served by the team. You only serve according to your availability.

Mental Health Connect - Shepherd partners with Mental Health Connect which is a collaborative of faith communities, working together to help destigmatize mental illness to make sure all people can find the free, customized, and confidential help they need. They welcome new volunteers and mental health awareness ambassadors.

Table for 8 - Looking for a meaningful way to connect with others at Shepherd? Table for 8 offers an opportunity to gather around the table for food, fellowship, and conversation in the homes of fellow members. Gracious hosts open their homes, with each gathering welcoming up to eight people in a relaxed setting to build new friendships and deepen connections. Gatherings anticipated for late July or early August. Whether you're new to Shepherd or have been part of the community for years, all are welcome. Sign up at the Welcome Desk.

Visitation Team - This team ensures that all of our sick and shut-in members and friends receive a monthly visit with Holy Communion in households or facilities. Most team members are assigned to one or two households to converse with homebound loved one and/or family caregiver(s). Training is provided, support is always available as well as pastoral referral as needed.
