Speaker: Jean Fagerstrom on “Mindfulness”
In this one-hour session, she will explain what mindfulness meditation is and how this practice of actually being present for our lives moment-by-moment can make a significant difference in our well-being. There will be a couple of brief mindfulness practices. Building on that basis, she will also give a brief introduction to mindful self-compassion including an experiential exercise. Both of these practices can ease stress and anxiety and help us to live more skillfully. She will also share information on how we can follow up with further study and practice in these areas.Jean Fagerstrom is a long-term meditator who has been teaching mindfulness courses at the University of Minnesota’s Center for Spirituality and Healing for over 10 years. She teaches both Jon Kabat-Zinn’s course, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and Kristin Neff and Christopher Germer’s Mindful Self-Compassion course. She is also a clinical social worker with several years’ experience as a psychotherapist.
