Besides continuing to shelter in place, social distancing when needing to go out, keeping things clean, and maximizing ways to stay well, consider this:
When times are tough we look to several places in our life for strength. Faith and faith practices, reassurance through interactions with loved ones, looking at history to see what we know from past experiences, etc.
Another place to look to is to look at your character strengths. Scientists studied people around the world and have named 24 character strengths. We all have our own unique combination of which ones are stronger and which ones are weaker. The list includes:
bravery, creativity, curiosity, fairness forgiveness, gratitude, honesty, hope, humility, humor, judgement, kindness, leadership, love, love of learning, perseverance, perspective, prudence, self- regulation, social intelligence, spirituality, teamwork, appreciation of beauty and zest.
Character strengths are positive parts of your personality that impact how you think, feel, react and they guide you. What are your strongest character strengths? Where do they shine in challenges like this one? Can you use your strengths to connect with others? To practice loving kindness to self and others? To see the silver lining in this? To activate more learning? Use your social intelligence to find new ways to get people together? Use your creativity to find a new hobby? Practice gratitude everyday by naming 3 good things from that day or in other ways? Can you be the zest in the doldrums?
No matter what your character strengths are, I know one thing FOR SURE, God grateful to you and so am I!!
