Center for Service
A New Organization
The Center for Service is a new organization developed to serve the Hopkins area by Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. Its sole purpose is to encourage volunteerism in the Hopkins community and to provide a central site where people can find opportunities in schools, hospitals, social service agencies, and other organizations that form the fabric of critical support systems in the Hopkins area upon which so many people must rely.
The Importance of Volunteering
Volunteers have always played a critical role in leveraging the infrastructure of organizations that contribute to the public good, by extending their impact and effectiveness significantly beyond what it might otherwise be. But volunteers, in too many cases, are in short supply; a shortage made all the more acute by the economic situation in which we find ourselves today.
In Partnership with Hopkins Schools
We begin this new venture in partnership with the Hopkins Public Schools focusing initially on the needs of its Community Education Department providing academic support to students in need. From here we will add information about additional volunteer needs in our schools as well as other organizations in the community.

So we invite you to join us in working to strengthen volunteerism in Hopkins. If you are able, become a volunteer yourself; encourage others to consider it; and help spread the word about this new resource that can help people find the right opportunity for them.
